Switzerland Vacation Ideas For Summer 2022

Switzerland is a year-round destination, offering a unique set of activities each season. There are some things to do in Switzerland in the summer that can only be enjoyed to the fullest in the warm weather.

Summers are vibrantly coloured, with green valleys bursting with yellow & white flowers, clear blue skies, emerald lakes, &  snow-capped peaks (yes, even in summer).

Many tourists visit Switzerland during May, June, and July to make the most of their summer vacation. Many believe the alpine country is at its most vibrant during these months.

Keeping in mind that you’d like to visit some mountain trails, lakesides, castles, & the best towns in Switzerland, here are a few must-see and do activities to help you plan your summer vacation in Switzerland.

1.  Matterhorn Glacier Paradise in Zermatt

The Matterhorn is a famous tourist destination in Switzerland. This single mountain, located in Zermatt, has become one of the country’s most recognizable symbols.

The Matterhorn Glacier Paradise is one of the many locations to try to get the best views of this mountain.

By cable car, you can reach Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. It provides year-round snow coverage. The view of the Matterhorn’s pyramid-shaped peak reveals its majestic glory. It explains why it is the most-photographed mountain in the world.

A panorama of numerous other 4000-meter-high peaks is also available.

2.  Jungfraujoch

No visitor to Switzerland can resist a stay in Interlaken & a trip to Europe’s highest point, the Jungfraujoch, the most popular excursion in the Bernese Oberland.

The excursion begins with a train ride from Interlaken to the Grindelwald mountain resort.

Once there, board the cogwheel train for a breathtaking ride to Europe’s highest railway station at 3454 metres via Kleine Scheidegg.

Jungfraujoch is the starting point for the Great Altesch Glacier, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once at the top, explore the attractions such as the Ice Palace, Ski & Snowboard Park, Sphinx observation terrace, and various restaurants.

3.  Lake Lucerne Region

The Dragon Mountain Pilatus is one of the most beautiful peaks in Central Switzerland.

The peak is located in the city of Lucerne, next to Lake Lucerne. If you visit during the summer, you may be able to experience Mt. Pilatus’ Golden Round Trip.

This includes a boat ride up from Lake Lucerne to Alpnachstad. After the scenic boat ride, take the world’s steepest cogwheel railway from Alpnachstad to the summit, & then the Aeriel Cableway to Kriens for your descent.

Spend some time at the summit & have a meal at one of the restaurants with a breathtaking view of the surrounding Alps.

4.  Zurich

Zurich is frequently overlooked in itineraries or used only as an entry point or exit, Zurich is a lively city with a lot to offer.

Spend a night or two in Zurich & explore its incredible Old Town, which features narrow cobblestone streets, small family-run cafes, artisan shops, & churches.

Spend some minutes walking along the lakeside & the Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich’s main shopping street, lined with outlets for every famous watch, jewellery, and fashion label you can think of.

Zurich is home to some of the best museums in the world, including those dedicated to art, natural history, trams, money, and even football. Everyone enjoys going to the zoo, and Zurich’s zoo is not missed.

5.  Rhine Falls

If you are staying in Zurich or Lucerne, you can take a day trip to the Rhine Falls, Europe’s largest waterfalls.

With a train from Zurich, you can reach the falls in under an hour (the nearest station to the falls is Schloss Laufen am Rhein fall).

It is one of the best things to do in Switzerland in May & July because the glaciers melt and the density of water increases.

You can also take a boat ride closer to the falls to experience the icy refreshing splash of the water. The cost of boat trips varies according to their duration (from CHF 8 to CHF 20).

6.  Jetboat Ride at Interlaken

Interlaken, which translates as “between two lakes,” is between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. These stunningly beautiful lakes offer a variety of cruise options.

You can hop on a public transportation boat & explore various lakeside villages or take an evening cruise that may include dinner.

The best, however, is a high-octane Jetboat ride on Lake Brienz. This thrilling ride provides 45 minutes of complete 360-degree spins, twists, and turns over a 30 km route.

The ride brings you close to the impressive Giessbach Falls, which adds a bit of adrenaline to a scenic sightseeing trip.

Don’t forget to take a glimpse of Mount Titlis Switzerland and Aurora Village Ivalo.
